Studies for Special Groups

The "Sibling Sounds" Project

A special subsidy for children on the autism spectrum and their siblings is offered - in order to empower them and help their personal development - being that this field is  sometimes devoided from them due to a focus on other needs. In collaboration with the Kiryat Ono municipality's welfare department, the conservatory has been subsidizing playing lessons for students who meet this profile since 2015. Support depends on the family’s socio-economic status, and can reach up to 300 NIS per month.

The "Special Sound" Project

"Special Sound" is the first musical youth organization in the country, for youth with and without special needs. Combining the world of music with the world of tutoring, a warm and equal educational-musical-social structure is created, in which youth tutors youth through music. The organization's hall in Kiryat Ono is the second established in the country, and has four ensembles - a young band, a mature band, a main band, and an extraneous band.

Band members consist of trainees and mentors in a 1:1 ratio, some are students of the conservatory, who hold social-musical activities in order to use music as a tool for developing listening and professional abilities, strengthening regional understanding and bringing hearts together.

The activity is operated by mentors who are interested in education and in the world of music (music programs, conservatories, etc.) Students with special needs that have participated in the program can move on to a tutorship program, and thus join the team leading the hall.

Each activity is accompanied by a certified music therapist who advises tutors, helps build the curriculum, solves challenges on the ground, and is coordinated by a volunteer from the national service (Sherut Leumi). As a local branch of the project - participation in the program is for Kiryat Ono children only.

The “Beethoven” Project

Inspired by the great composer, the conservatory offers hearing-impaired and deaf children music lessons. 2020 marked the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, known as one of the most important composers in western music, who has brought the world masterpieces under the limitation of hearing loss to the point of complete deafness.

In collaboration with the Kiryat Ono municipality's welfare department, the conservatory provides a significant subsidy, up to 25%, for private music lessons. This project specializes in adapting the instrument to the nature of the hearing impairment, and focuses on instruments that produce frequencies and vibrations that can be physically felt, such as: drums, percussion, bass guitar, contrabass and wind instruments (excluding flute).

Promoting Original Israeli Music

The Kiryat Ono Conservatory dedicates part of its resources and funds, about 5,000-10,000 NIS per year, to commissioning original pieces by Israeli composers. These works are premiered by the students, and some of them have even later reached the The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s stage. In doing so, the conservatory contributes to the swelling of the collection of original Israeli musical pieces, and the nurturing of local talent in the Israeli culture industry. Among composers who have created pieces for the conservatory: Lev Kogan, Sergei Abir, Eyal Bat, Boaz Shchory, Avner Hanani, Alon Farber and Yonatan Keret.
